About Freewriting for Travel Writers

Freewriting for travel writers-3This book introduces you to the concept and approach for freewriting, so that you can put it into practice straight away. Learn when to use it and how to overcome the challenges travel writers face. I show how you can create your own travel writing prompts, but have also included a list of 100 travel writing prompts to inspire your next freewriting session.

Just because you write nonfiction, doesn’t mean you can’t write creatively. So make today the day you invest in your writing career to improve your writing and increase you ability to reach more readers. It is all too easy to get stuck in an educational or informational rut when writing nonfiction, but as soon as you tap into the inspirational side of a topic, you’re creating content that is no longer one-dimensional.

What people are saying about this book

I liked the tone and felt it very easy to connect with what you Jay is saying; her writing style is very fresh and engaging. I also had the sense that I was listening to a credible expert speak about something she truly believes in. The book is well organized and I like the fact that she has taken a practical approach to the subject. One of my Beta Readers

The narrative style was very good – professional but casual and informative without sounding like a text book. Your layout and organization were spot on. Casia Schreyer – Author, Schreyer Ink Publishing

Indie Author Fringe BEA 2016

Indie Author Fringe Book Expo AmericaIf you missed our 2nd Indie Author Fringe of the year on May 14th, you can read about the speakers and enjoy their conference sessions by clicking on the links below.

We hosted 24-hours of non-stop expert speakers from all over the world, and the theme of the event was how authors can sell, market and promote their books.

It was a usual mix of advice, competitions, speaker giveaways and sponsor promotions, and we stepped up our email marketing and social media communication to ensure that more and more indie authors knew about the event.

This second Indie Author Fringe was a real whirlwind because it happened so soon after the London Book Fair event, but I’m pleased to see that London Book Fair will be scheduled a little earlier in 2017, so these two events won’t be as close together next year.

WELCOME TO BOOK FAIR AMERICA: INDIE AUTHOR FRINGE

The Indie Author Fringe is the number one online conference for all Indie Authors.

Orna Ross, Director of the Alliance of Independent Authors, is joined by David Penny and Jay Artale to welcome you to the second of this year’s three 24 hour conferences.

Printed version coming soon!

I received the cover mock up for the paperback version of my Bodrum Peninsula Travel guide. I decided to use the same cover photo as my ebook version, but the fonts and layout have been revamped for this paperback version.

Bodrum Peninsula Travel Guide paperback version cover

I’m really excited about this cover revamp … and now I just need to complete the updates to the content. Then I can give my cover designer the page count, so that he can calculate the spine width.

Even though it’s going to be a tough season for Turkey, there’s no better time to be releasing my first ebook in paperback format. I want to do everything I can to help support the local Bodrum community to have a successful tourist season, and by showcasing all that’s good about the area via my Travel Guide and Blog – I feel I’m contributing in some way.

Book Cover Design Concepts

I’m busy writing my 4-part How to Write a Travel Guide series, and needed a break from writing so headed over to Canva to design some working covers for my titles. These will be tweaked before I publish these e-books, but I really like having some visual to pin my plans on.

I used a photo I took from the window of a dodgy motel in Bodrum, Turkey. We needed a cheap overnight stay for a night out on the town, and ended up in a back street of central Bodrum in a place that cost us $15 for the night. The bed was hard and uncomfortable, and the next door neighbours were smoking like it was an Olympic Sport.

Using your own photos for your cover design are a great way to avoid copyright problems.

There were two saving graces for the room we stayed in; the shower was a power shower, and the view from the window was colourful with an eye-catching perspective. I picked up on 4 of the colours in the image, and created muted tone versions of each of them.

When planning a series, it’s optimal to plan multiple book covers in advance so that you can confirm that your design approach will carry across multiple books in the series.

I’ve already identified some changes I’d like to make to each of the covers. But that’s the great thing about starting your cover design when you’re writing your book, you have some thinking time to make tweaks as your cover concept evolves.

How to Write a Travel Guide Book 1: PLAN ITHow to Write a Travel Guide Jay Artale Book 1 Plan it

How to Write a Travel Guide Book 1: PEN IT

How to Write a Travel Guide Jay Artale Book 2 Pen it

How to Write a Travel Guide Book 1: PUBLISH IT

How to Write a Travel Guide Jay Artale Book 2 Produce it

How to Write a Travel Guide Book 1: PROMOTE IT

How to Write a Travel Guide Jay Artale Book 4 Promote it

I have four different working titles for the books in the series; Plan it, Write it, Produce it, Market it… but then during my cover design process I stumbled across the 4xP approach … and the editions became Plan it, Pen it, Produce it, Promote it.
